Labor Day 2026 falls on Monday, September 7, which means a long weekend that runs Friday September 4 through Monday September 7 for anyone who can get out early. Four days if you play it right, three if you can’t sneak out of work Friday. Either way, it’s the official close of summer, the last big float weekend on the calendar, and one of the best times to be on the Elk River all year.

What Labor Day Weekend at River Ranch Looks Like
Most Labor Day visitors stretch it into a three or four day stay depending on when they get in:
- Friday: Get in Friday afternoon or evening, settle into your cabin, grill at the site, ease into the weekend
- Saturday: Launch a mid-day float, cookout at the campsite that night
- Sunday: Slower start, coffee from Elk River Coffee Company, second float in the afternoon
- Sunday night: Fire, food, one last real summer night outside
- Monday: Slow morning, pack up, drive home before the traffic stacks up
If you only have one night, do Sunday to Monday. Sunday floats are gorgeous and Monday morning drive-home traffic is manageable if you leave early.
What’s Actually Running Right Now
A few notes on current conditions heading into the weekend:
- The 5 mile float is still running strong. Kayaks and canoes handle low water best, but rafts and tubes are still on the water.
- Book as soon as possible to secure your spot. Cabins, glamping pods, and campsites go fast for Labor Day. If you want lodging, don’t wait around, get on it now.
- Weather in early September is usually one of the best mixes of the season: warm days, cool nights.
